Community

Drupal has a large community of users and developers. More than 350,000 user accounts have been created on Drupal.org, and over 2000 people have signed up for developer accounts. The last major conference in the USA, Drupalcon Boston 2008, attracted over 800 people. The last European conference, Drupalcon Sgezed 2008, held in late August 2008, had an attendance of 500.

Events



There are a number of active Drupal forums, mailing lists, and discussion groups. Drupal also maintains several IRC channels on the Freenode network.

  • Drupal Dojo - A group for apprentice/journeyman developers who want to increase proficiency, and for experts looking to grow the pool of Drupal talent.
  • Curriculum and Training (Drupal Group) - a group to organize and discuss the development of Drupal courseware to be used for training students at Drupal Camp and other training events.
  • Drupal in Education (Drupal group) - an umbrella group for supporting and discussing the various uses of Drupal in educational settings.
  • Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is a program that offers student developers stipends to write code for various open source projects.
  • Google Highly Open Participation Contest (GHOP) - initiative to get pre-university students involved in open source software development. The contest brought together more than 350 students from around the world to help ten Open Source projects make improvements to their code base, marketing materials, documentation and user experience research.
  • LAMPuniversity (Drupal Group) - e-learning aspects - integration of Moodle, Elgg, Civicspace and Drupal
  • Drupal.org: HowTos - HowTo pages are generally short, highly-targeted articles on how to accomplish a specific task. They are contributed by the community in response to a need for information.
  • Drupal Handbooks - 'Official handbooks' offer a reference for those interested in Drupal, both novice and experienced Drupal administrators, Drupal users and Drupal developers.
  • Drupal News aggregator - Aggregating Drupal news from around the web.
  • Planet Drupal - aggregates the Drupal-related blog posts of several developers and firms.
